Jakarta, 5 October 2024 - PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) is implementing a sustainable TJSL (Social and Environmental Responsibility) program in accordance with the Environment, Social, Government (ESG) implementation indicators. One of them is the Independent Energy Village (DEB) program.
"KPI, through the DEB program, pays attention to villages that have limited access to clean & sustainable energy, based on a strong commitment to ESG implementation to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030," said KPI Corporate Secretary, Hermansyah Y Nasroen.
Hermansyah explained that the DEB program emphasizes social innovation by increasing the social and economic independence of communities around the refinery by providing access to clean energy that can be utilized by the community.
"DEB has achieved clean energy production of 35,500 WP and has succeeded in reducing the carbon footprint of emissions by 126,444 CO2eq tons/year. The beneficiaries of this program are 603 families from 12 DEB Programs," explained Hermansyah.
The advantages of this program, according to Hermansyah, are not only providing access to clean energy, but also opening up new economic opportunities for the community.
"Through training and mentoring, village communities are expected to become the main actors in the development of sustainable energy in their areas," said Hermansyah.
The Independent Energy Village of Bondan Hamlet and the Independent Energy Village of Kalijaran in Cilacap, Central Java are examples of successful DEB programs implemented by KPI.
"This program not only provides solutions to energy problems, but also improves community welfare and preserves the environment. As many as 80 houses and 3 groups of MSMEs in the DEB Cilacap Refinery area have successfully been electrified thanks to the DEB Program with PLTMH and PLTS electricity," said Hermansyah.
Due to the commitment to implementing DEB so far, KPI was recently selected as one of the finalists at the 2024 Sustainability Awards in the Social Impact category organized by Reuters News Agency Company.
The 2024 Sustainability Awards were attended by 700 companies from 52 countries from all categories, and KPI has successfully entered the top 16 in the Social Impact category along with leading companies in the world.
