Encouraging Innovation for the Country, KPI Successfully Wins the 2024 Merdeka Awards

Jakarta, 19 September 2024 - PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) received appreciation at the 2024 Merdeka Awards for its commitment to building the country through various innovations. KPI won an award in the "Innovative Program for the Country" category, which consists of three innovation indicators, namely economic growth, public services, and supporting digitalization. At the prestigious event, the Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Arie Setiadi, was also present to give appreciation to companies that have made breakthroughs in various industrial sectors.

One of KPI's leading innovations that successfully won the innovation title was the development of the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel product, which is an environmentally friendly fuel with a low sulfur content.

"Our Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel product is produced by the Balongan Refinery. This product can reduce the impact of healthier exhaust emissions, because its sulfur content is only 10 parts per million (ppm). Of course, this is a real commitment of KPI in providing higher quality energy," said Hermansyah. The Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel product is believed to have met the Euro V international standard.

Encourage Economic Growth

The manifestation of KPI in efforts to support economic growth is also shown in the national-scale Independent Energy Village Program, including in Singapure Village and Kalijaran Village. Independent Energy Village is a flagship program of Pertamina's Environmental Social Responsibility (TJSL) which focuses on the development of New Renewable Energy (EBT) in accordance with the potential of the village so as to have a positive impact on energy resilience and independence in the region.

"One of our Independent Energy Villages in Kalijaran has even become a pilot village for the development of EBT. The support provided by KPI includes a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) of 9,700 wattpeak (WP) and of course has a major impact on increasing agricultural productivity. The benefits of the PLTS include increasing the amount of water discharge for irrigation to 117,600 liters per day, organic fertilizer production of 70 kg/day to increasing the harvest cycle from previously 2 times to 3 times per year," explained Hermansyah. Thus, this program makes the Kalijaran Village area a sustainable Independent Energy Village in the environment, economy and socially.

In an integrated manner, currently KPI has run Independent Energy Villages managed by each refinery in Dumai, Plaju, Cilacap, Balikpapan, Balongan and Kasim with a total energy capacity of 38068.2 kwh.

"KPI's commitment through the Kalijaran DEB Program, to support sustainable economic growth, one of which is through the implementation of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) which are able to increase agricultural productivity and community empowerment towards sustainable energy and economic independence," explained Hermansyah.

Hermansyah added that in addition to the program, KPI is also innovating in the Teman Tuli community empowerment program through a vocational learning system at Special Schools (SLB) and the presence of Disaster Alert Villages to reduce the risk and impact of significant disasters. From the digital side, KPI through the Plaju Refinery presents the E-Workshop 2.0 application, as the latest digital solution for a more efficient refinery maintenance process.
